NSW Land Valuation

is our latest mapping and data application and is implemented inside the Google Earth™ application. As an interactive online tool, NSW Land Valuation allows you to view and explore NSW maps, imagery (including up-to-date satellite images) and other spatial data.

The NSW Land Valuation is part of the NSW Government’s open data strategy.

Information available

With NSW Land Valuation you can view NSW maps, data and imagery including data owned by NSW Government and data used under license from other parties.

Some of the layers you can choose to view include:

  • Imagery (medium and high resolution aerial, satellite both government and private sourced)
  • Response imagery (e.g. flood, fire, storm)
  • Terrain data (25m DTMS, 5m DTMS, LiDAR and SRTM various locations)
  • Places (e.g. population centre, suburb, other places)
  • Boundaries (e.g. coastline, local government, localities, electoral state and federal)
  • Roads (e.g. arterial road, minor road, other)
  • Rail (e.g. railway line, railway station)
  • Addresses (property and address)
  • Land parcel (e.g. lot and deposited plan, property boundary, labels)
  • Surveying (e.g. survey marks, CORSnet stations)
  • History (e.g. 1943 Sydney imagery, historical maps)

Installing NSW Land Valuation

Instructions for PC or Mac

  1. New Google Earth™ users, download and install the latest, free Google Earth™ application.
  2. Existing Google Earth™ users, update to the latest version (version 7.0.2 or later) of Google Earth
  3. Save the nswglobe.kml (KML, xBytes) file to your computer by right clicking the on the link and selecting ‘Save target as…’ or ‘Save link as…’ and choosing a location to save it to (this will normally default to your ‘Downloads’ folder).
  4. Go to the file location and double click on the file. The file will open in Google Earth™.
  5. In ‘Layers’, expand the NSW Globe layer and then select the datasets you wish to view.

Instructions for iPhone and iPad devices

    1. Visit the App Store and download the latest Google Earth™ application. Note: System requirements are in the application description.
    2. If you have an earlier version of Google Earth™ installed you will need to update to the latest version.
    3. Open the Google Earth™ app and go to the menu.
    4. Go to the Settings item and open up the Servers item.
    5. Add the server URL http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/ and click Done when finished.
    6. Select the tick box next to the new URL to change the server from Default to http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/.

    1. Go back to the main menu (Settings > Back > Menu).
    2. NSW Globe layers and sub-layers can be selected or deselected as required.

    1. After you exit Google Earth™, the next time you relaunch, select the http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/ URL as your server.

  1. If the server does not appear then repeat the steps above to load NSW Globe.

Instructions for Android phones and tablets

    1. Visit the Play Store, download and install the latest Google Earth™ software. Note: System requirements are in the application description.
    2. If you have an earlier version of Google Earth™ installed you will need to update to the latest version.
    3. Open Google Earth™ and go to the menu.
    4. Go to the Settings item and open the Databases item.
    5. Add the server URL http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/ and click OK.
    6. Select the new URL to change the server from Default to http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/ and click on the back arrow to exit.

    1. Upon restart of Google Earth™ you may need to select the http://globe.six.nsw.gov.au/nswglobe/ database URL to access the NSW Globe layers.
    2. Select the Layers icon to select and deselect layers as required.
